HP Latex Inks

HP latex inks are one of four types of wide format graphic inks that can be used for banner stand production.

HP latex inks offer excellent suitability for
POP posters
WLl coverings
Lightboxes

Latex inks also offer a better solution for the growing soft signage market to that of UV curable, ECO / Low solvent and Full solvent inks.

The directors or Reflex Exhibitions care greatly obout our own and employees health and the use of Latex inks in our banner stands create no harmful chemicals at all which is the only robust ink technology that make this claim. Latex inks require no special ventilation in the workplace, require no hazard labels, and are non-flammable and non-combustible.

Waste ink and consumables from many solvent and UV curable printing systems often must be disposed of as hazardous waste. In contrast a range of spent consumables from HP latex printers can be recycled. This helps us reduce our waste costs and pass on these savings to our customers with our incredibly low pricing structure across our entire range of banner stands and pop up stands.

Latex inks are odourless which is fantastic for producing graphics to be used in an indoor environment such as exhibition stands, restaurants, food stores, coffee shops. Print odors are a concern in places that promote the feeling of being clean, healthy surroundings, as in a hospital, gym or school.

Reflex gains HP EcoSolutions accreditation

Reflex is proud to announce that it has gained accreditation from Hewlett-Packard as a fully trained EcoSolutions company.
Only companies with HP latex printers can gain this accreditation which confirms knowledge and commitment to environmentally friendly printing solutions. The Latex university course covers many aspects relating to reducing the carbon footprint of our print solutions.

From the starting point of our HP Latex printer being energy star compliant in its consumption of power through to the use of environmentally friendly printing sub-straights and recycling schemes the accreditation covers all areas required to understand how we can help reduce our and our customers impact on the environment.

For the most environmentally friendly banner stand why not opt for a lighter weight print material that is also recyclable to approach the issue on two fronts. Firstly the lighter weight banner stand material will have a lower carbon footprint from that of a heavier PVC alternative, due to it having less manufactured content, lower shipping weight to us and lower shipping weight to you. Secondly the lighter weight alternatives to banner PVC are completely recyclable.

We find that many of our customers are increasingly placing environmental requirements on their banner stands including: Responsible material sourcing (FSC, PEFC, SFI…)
Thinner, lighter, simpler signs.
Lower carbon footprints,
Waste reduction,
Print door and health considerations.

HP latex prints for your banner stands or portable displays could use environmentally friendly materials such as:
HDPE Reinforced banner
DUPont Tyvek banner
Heavy textile banner
Light textile display banner
Polypropylene media

To aid our recycling HP offers a media take back program for a range of its medias. In Europe HP offers an on line pick up request to collect materials for recycling. Alternatively any media can be returned to us for recycling through our recycling company Briers waste management who are conveniently located 100 yards from our offices (not much CO2 generated in that transport!)

Reflex Installs HP Latex Printer

Don’t delay, if you are looking for an ECO Solution for your Banner Stand requirements Reflex has installed the latest HP latex printer which is available for orders NOW!  We are proud to be one of the first companies to have installed the latest generation of HP Latex Technology.

Latex ink technology is the very latest in large format printing technology which gives true ECO credentials, for both the end user and our staff!  Latex ink is water based but performs onto vinyl medias just like more traditional solvents, but has added benefits such as it can print onto a massive range of textiles for the growing soft signage market and it can print onto vinyl with no image fade when stretched for vehicle wraps and complex installations.

Faster printing speeds and instantly dry once printed, will only increase our ability to turn your job around within ever shrinking deadlines imposed by out ever growing list of demanding clients.

A growing range of recyclable materials are available for the HP Latex printers so if you have environmental considerations when choosing a supplier look no further.  Coupled with  sustainable Bamboo Banner Stands you have the perfect solution.

Reflex can also offer Double Sided Banner printing for use in retail or exhibition environments in double quick time.  The new HP latex printer will not only produce a completely dry print ready for the reverse side to be printed it even registers to 2 sides automatically and eradicates the usual printing errors on jobs such as this.

Traditional heavy weight PVC products are not considered recyclable as they contain woven structures that cannot be separated and recycled.  Unlike our competitors we do not use these sub-straights in our banner stands we opt for a much more recyclable PET scrim-less banner or why not go the distance and opt for a lighter weight material which performs just as well once erected, is completely recyclable and reduces the carbon footprint in all of the manufacturing process, shipping weights and end of life cycle.

The HP Latex is the perfect solution for digital printed wallpaper and carries GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification suitable for Odorless indoor wall decorations printed on HP PVC‑free Wall Paper with HP Latex Inks are .SM

Budget roller banner design

So we have had a post about choosing print designs and artwork, this post will be a beginners guide to designing banner stand artwork.  The ideas and example in the post are for 850mm budget banner stands as this is our standard.

The visible area of the banner stand artwork will be 850mm x 2000mm , we advise leaving 100mm bleed at the bottom. This bleed will enable the banner artwork to wrap into the roller banner stand unit leaving a more professional finish.  The sky’s the limit with your background artwork, just make sure that it suits your corporate image/branding requirements.

Right ,the text for your banner stands needs to be kept simple and concise using bullet points rather than providing your prospective clients with an essays on your company/product…..would you read it if the shoe was on the other foot!  Remember banner stands are for a moving audience be it a shopping centre, exhibition, show or product demo, so use a font style and size that is easy to read.

Overall, you are looking for a well balanced, eye catching banner that’s simple to understand.  So don’t feel the need to overfill the artwork space. Just take a look at the example banner. The text is to the point and the artwork is definitely eye catching. If you need help designing your roller banner stand we offer a graphic design service. We sell a wide variety roller banner stands at different sizes, check out our website www.reflexexhibitions.com

The good, the bad and the ugly banner stands

As you all probably know, there are a lot of budget roller banner stands in the market. It can become a mine fields when searching. Below is a little list of things to consider….

  • Buying a banner stand that has had a few corners cut to match price points of other suppliers. Basically cheap media in ultra flimsy roller banner units, low quality prints run from an uncontrolled area (a dusty garage) with the risk of your banner stand learning forward ( a single sneeze could tip it over). We have searched the market for a budget banner stand unit that won’t tip over and is suitable for multi use (durable). It’s more cost effective for us to use higher quality units with high quality prints than keep paying for return deliveries from unsatisfied customers.
  • Bold claims from overpriced suppliers, when companies do not have the buying power to purchase banner stand units and media in bulk (as we do!). This is obviously going to have a negative effect on their banner stand prices, meaning that in a price sensitive market they are going to lose sales. This is usually counteracted by bold claims about superior units but realistically it’s going to be the same but most probably due to lack of buying power its likely one of the units mentioned in point one (or alternatively just plain old greed!)
  • Curly print edges, this continues from point one.  There are countless options for media to use with roller banner stands; however the curled edges are a direct result from cheap media. We use a media for our roller banner stands that is designed to stay flat, it’s actually designed for banners stands not a cut price alternative.
  • Cheaper carry bags, the really cheap units have unpadded carry cases. Leaving them susceptible to damage when being transported between events. “Good” roller banner stands should come with a padded case (as ours do) as they are for multi event use and will probably be passed from pillar to post.
  •  What size should I buy? This is personal preference as it depends on your events, show or exhibition. Our standard budget banner stand is 850mm wide, many companies standard is 800mm so you’re actually getting a bit more graphic for your money. If your struggling to choose just contact one of our team on 01827 51769 and we would be glad to talk you through some options.  (see post  An inventive way to use budget banner stands)
The roller banner stands picture above , are a prime example of a cheap flimsy unit . The units tilts forward so much that the slight breeze from walking past actually topples them over.

Overall. Some banner stand suppliers are out for a quick buck, simply not bothered about repeat business. They will send out cheap, poor quality roller banner stands and then look for the next unsuspecting customer (victim). We pride ourselves on the quality of all our products/services, without our repeat customers we would not have achieved over 35 years in the exhibition industry.

So what’s a Evolution Hop-up Stand

If you read the pop up stands post and were thinking about buying a pop up stand but still feel daunted by the prospect of standing in an exhibition hall attempting to erect it correctly (you shouldn’t its  simple). We may just have just have found a solution for you.  The Evolution Tension Fabric system is described as the next generation in large format graphic displays , the main advantage of a hop-up stand  is that is a no fuss system that literally hops ups (see picture). The seamless three sided fabric graphic comes attached to the frame, so it’s a simply pull and click together. Due to the fabric graphic it’s lightweight, portable and very very quick to assemble.

Obviously with the evolution hop up system being fabric it will never look like a ridged wall like a pop up stand. However it is a very good alternative, with loads of practical benefits. The Hop up only comes in a straight version a 3×2 2260mm (h) x 1525mm (w) , 3×3 2260mm (h) x 2260mm (w) and 3×4 2260mm (h) x 2990mm (w) all with a 315mm depth.

Overall I think that the hop up stand will suit a beginner looking for a no fuss kit, an experienced exhibitor looking for an alternative to a pop up stand or an exhibitor travelling overseas looking to cut transportation costs. With the option to purchase wheeled carry bag specifically designed for the stand, the hop up is a great portable display solution.

An inventive way to use budget banner stands

It’s always nice to be surprised and after years of dealing with numerous customers and thousands of banner stands. One of our clients came up with the novel idea of fanning 6 banners stands out to create a wall of graphics similar to pop-up stand coverage at half the price.  Not only do you get a large graphic area but also the flexibility of being able to make the fan tighter to fit into smaller spaces. Another advantage is that if the artwork is designed intelligently (as my clients were) individual budget banner stands can be taken away and still leave a coherent exhibition display. Intelligent design also meant that some of the banner stands can be used on their own. The idea is a very  simple way of getting twist banner stand style performance whilst saving a fortune. Obviously twist banners stands are cleverly engineered to make a seamless flexible graphic area, but this use of budget banner stands is just another way to create an impressive exhibition space without breaking the bank.

below is the visual of how the banner stands will be set up at their numerous exhibitions

Once our client received their banner stands, they liked them so much they used them in a corner in reception until the day of the exhibition.  Again highlighting how versatile these banners are due to their intelligent artwork design.

The Reflex Exhibitions (short) Guide to Inks

The choice of ink types available for wide format inkjets is varied each providing different Pro and Cons. This post aims to make the choice less daunting.

True solvent inks can also be referred to as ‘True, Aggressive, Hard or Strong’. True Solvents are the originals outdoor inks used for Signs, Displays and vehicle wraps. True solvent inks are cheap, versatile and offer at least a 5-year outdoor life. When used on a Plastic sign media the ink partly dissolves the surface layer before drying therefore forming a stable, permanent colour image that will be resistant to scuffs and scratches.

Eco Solvents unlike True solvents are less hazardous and kinder to printheads than true solvents.  They are slightly less durable and vibrant than full solvent, although outdoor life is usually quoted as three years. Eco Solvents are used for sign, display (Indoor & Outdoor) and Vehicle Wraps. we use our Eco-Solvent machine for our budget banners, double sided banners1200mm and 1500mm roller banners, outdoor posters, exhibitions panels, window graphics…. the list goes on.

Mild -solvent  are the middle ground between full and eco-solvent; they are cheaper and more durable then eco. They are still classified as harmful and mainly used by volume printers. They can be used for indoor/ outdoor signage and vehicle wraps.

Bio Solvent inks are derived from soybean or corn oil. It is accepted that the colours aren’t as bright and have less durability than mild solvents. Mutoh have now introduced a 50% corn mixed with conventional solvent, this enhances the durability. Bio Solvents can be used for indoor/ outdoor signage.

UV Curing (Polymerisation) inks remain liquid until exposed to ultra violet light; they cure almost instantly and form a tough/durable coloured layer with the same outdoor life as a true solvent. UV inks are mainly used to print direct to rigid materials (wood, glass, metal and foamboard) with flatbed printers. UV inks are non-hazardous once fully cured and are expensive, hard to recycle and carry a few health issue when the ink is not cured

UV Cationic are an alternative to UV inks, they cure slower than UV (polymerisation) but use less UV energy. UV Cationic has better adhesion, flexibility and abrasion than UV cured by Polymerisation.

Aqueous as the name suggests are water based ink usually found in office inkjet and high quality photo/proofing printers. These inks are far more expensive than solvent types. Aqueous inks get there colour from dye or pigment, dye are very bright but fade fast. Pigment last longer up to 100years when indoors and framed. Aqueous inks are not waterproof without lamination.  They can be used for high quality posters, photographs, fine art, point-of-sale etc. we use our Aqueous printers for our Pacific banner stands, Barracuda banner stands, Roller pro banner stands, Eco banner stands , Orient banner standsExcalibur banner stands, pop-up stands

Latex Printing Technologies developed by HP and has the potential to print on to anything, latex ink is not made from rubber it’s actually Acrylic. Latex benefits from long outdoor life, rub-resistant, brightness without the health hazard or smell of solvents.

Crystal point inks are loaded as solid sphere and are then melted to jet through the heads. The inks are not absorbed by the paper surface therefore giving them a brighter finish and with the advantage of being able to use low cost uncoated paper. Can be used on CAD and GIS printing, indoor/outdoor displays and posters.

Dye Sublimation used for Textile printing, soft signage, furnishings and garments. Dye sub inks are printed on to transfer paper. Once dry they are placed face down with the final substrate and heated via a press or roller. Dye sub won’t work on natural fibre such as wool or cotton unless given a special coating. To print direct on to flags a modified inkjet (with a catch gutter for excess ink) can be used in conjunction with a polyester fabric roll. we use dye sub printing for our zoom flags , feather flags, mini zoom flag
